Inspiration boards from a Vogue "luxury Luggage" feature.
Feburarys issue of Vogue this year featured a 4 double page spread feature on luxury luggage and provided inspiration for our Vivienne Westwood design. The images show women sleeping in airports, equipped with their designer luggage. This inspired us to add the seat design to our product.

Product Design Pitch
We initially wanted to create a piece of luggage which was suitable for transporting items from A to B in a simple easy format. The luggage would be primarily used for a busy traveller leaving the plane and jumping straight onto a train, this would mean a light, compact and organised luggage case. Taking into consideration the recent credit crunch, fewer people are travelling and fewer are willing to spend a huge amount on a luggage case. We therefore came up with the concept of interchangeable covers, which season after season could be changed and once again become right on trend. The problem we came across with this idea is if the suitcase was not as popular as expected we would be left with many case covers in production which were not selling, therefore we decided we would introduce the interchangeable covers after a year of the suitcase being in production depending on the sales and popularity as a ‘limited edition’ piece, from then we would escalate our patterns and covers on demand.
As with many suitcases there are problems travellers’ face, such as leaking toiletries, security and sturdiness. We would develop our case with a watertight interior section which would eliminate any spillages and can be removed and cleaned if a spillage did occur. We also found sturdiness of the wheels and balance was another problem suitcase’ endure; we developed our suitcase to have one large wheel instead of the usual four. This would increase balance and transport on un-even surfaces. An added element to our design is the fold out seat, this came as our busy traveller initially would be stepping off the plane onto a train or bus where there are limited seats, this would give them the option to sit down when there are no available seats, it folds neatly and compactly into the back of the case when it is not in use.
